Application of Ultrasonography. A healthy adult standardized patient lies supine. An examiner sits at the machine and changes settings only on your request; linear, curvilinear and phased-array probes are available. You hold the probe. Three tasks follow in order, a vascular access image, a nerve block image and a POCUS view, each limited to 2 minutes 30 seconds.2
Treat the model as Mr. Kowalski, a 71-year-old man, 86 kg, in the PACU 2 hours after a left hemicolectomy that was converted from laparoscopic to open through an upper midline incision, with mobilization of the splenic flexure. His blood pressure is 94/56 and heart rate 112. He is restless and in pain. His urinary catheter was removed at the end of the case and he has not voided. Two radial arterial line attempts have failed.
Your task: for each request, choose the probe, position the patient, ask for the settings you need, and narrate the image and your endpoint.
