Application of Ultrasonography. A healthy adult standardized patient lies supine on a stretcher. An examiner sits at the machine and adjusts it only on your request; linear, curvilinear and phased-array probes are available. You hold the probe. Three tasks follow in order, a vascular access image, a nerve block image and a POCUS view, each limited to 2 minutes 30 seconds.2
Treat the model as Mrs. Lindqvist, a 72-year-old woman, 64 kg, with moderate mitral regurgitation and an ejection fraction of 45%, scheduled for an open right hemicolectomy through a transverse incision below the umbilicus. She needs an arterial line before induction and bilateral TAP blocks at the end of surgery, and the surgeon wants a quick look at her heart.
Your task: for each request, choose the probe, position the patient, ask for the settings you need, and narrate the image and your endpoint.
