Your department sends each anesthesiologist a quarterly report of their own patients' outcomes compared with the department average. Yours shows that 31% of your adult PACU patients received rescue antiemetics last quarter, against a department average of 16%. Your caseload is mostly outpatient gynecologic laparoscopy and breast surgery. You have not looked at your own charts yet. The department chair, Dr. Evan Morris, has asked to meet with you about the report.
Your task: discuss the report with Dr. Morris and agree on how you will respond to it. Do not focus on the pharmacology of individual antiemetics. You have 8 minutes; a warning sounds at 6 minutes.3
