Mr. Daniel Brooks, 41, is in the PACU after open fixation of a right ankle fracture under general anesthesia with a popliteal block. He is comfortable, drowsy and oriented, and is dozing. Before surgery he told you, privately, that he takes buprenorphine–naloxone for opioid use disorder and has been in recovery for three years. He said his wife does not know and asked you not to tell her. His medication list was briefly visible on the PACU computer screen while his wife was at the bedside. Mrs. Brooks has asked to speak with the anesthesiologist in the family room.

Your task: speak with Mrs. Brooks. You have 8 minutes; a warning sounds at 6 minutes.4
