Mrs. Lucía Herrera is a 26-year-old woman, 74 kg, pregnant with her first baby at 40 weeks, in spontaneous labor and 5 cm dilated. She has no medical problems, a normal platelet count and no anticoagulants. She speaks Spanish and little English. She is having strong contractions every 3 minutes and has asked for an epidural. Her sister is at the bedside and offers to translate. A professional medical interpreter is in the room. You and the obstetric team agree an epidural is appropriate. The history and physical are complete; do not repeat them.

Your task: explain the labor epidural to Mrs. Herrera through the interpreter and obtain her verbal consent.
